This afternoon I arrived in Vancouver for a week-long conference. This is my first trip here so I asked some friends and colleagues for restaurant recommendations, advice on travel, etc. Everyone I've spoken to about this city could not have been more positive about it. In fact, they go on and on about how this is their "Favorite city in North America," "The one Canadian city I could move to," and if they already live her they say, "I will never move." Wow.
Late this afternoon I checked into my hotel - the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Center. I sipped my Chai Tea, looked out my floor to ceiling windows and gazed into the warm afternoon sun enjoying the vista of sea and sailboats, parklands full of blooming rhododendrons, and the city surrounded by snowcapped mountains. I began to see some of what my friends and colleagues had fallen in love with. That is until I read the Safety instructions included in the guest book on my desk, they read, "In the event of an earthquake... Remain calm. Do not panic."
Fingers crossed it will be a quiet week.
